ALPHA ALPHA ALPHA ALPHA ALPHA ALPHA ALPHA
Starts 16th September 7pm Village Hall
Don't Miss It

The first talk at our ALPHA SUPPER is titled 'Christianity: Boring. Untrue and Irrelevant'.

Being bored at church is nothing new and there are plenty of stories and jokes about it. Here's one I read recently:

Mrs Jones said to the vicar after the service
"I'm sorry my husband Ralph walked out during your sermon vicar but it wasn't anything you said".
"Well," said the vicar, "it was a bit disconcerting at the time."
"The trouble is," said Mrs Jones, "Ralph has been sleepwalking all his life!"

Of course we do need to be quiet and thoughtful in church. not many of us take much time to reflect or to be still, however I don't think this means we have to be sombre. In St Mary's and St Stephen's you will often hear a joke or two and we try to keep things moving, relevant, interesting.

For Alpha however we meet in the Village Hall and maybe some of the constraints of meeting in a church are gone. Last year there were40 of us and we had huge fun. This year we will do much the same, with a meal together, a talk  and a small group discussion. New friendships were made and most important of all many were able to look into the claims of real Christianity and experience God's Holy Spirit first hand.

By the end of last year's course not many could say Christianity was boring, most were quite convinced  it is true and highly relevant to our lives and our society. Many indeed felt their life was changed.

Please fill in the form enclosed in the Spotlight magazine and at least give the first evening a try.
