| The Community Council of Devon has received a three year grant from the Big Lottery Fund to work with and support the management committees of rural community buildings (e.g. village halls, scout huts etc.) to address the issues around ‘access’ and ‘barriers’ to services and activities. The focus of the ‘Access & Awareness’ project is to improve the range, quality and take-up of services (e.g. the community hall) and goods (e.g. the activities, clubs etc.) with particular responsibility to address the needs of older people and disabled people within rural communities. The project officer, Penny Thame, said the project outcomes would include improved well-being, reduced isolation along with more active, co-operative and sustainable communities. She also hoped that with involvement of statutory, private and voluntary organizations, the project would improve the availability of services like benefits advice, library services, job clubs and internet services. If you provide, or would like to provide your services closer to a community, or you have had difficulty accessing a service within your community, Penny would like to hear from you. She can be contacted at CCD on 01392 38 3681 or penny@devonrcc.org.uk. |
